2011-2012 SCHEDULE

 

 

LIFESKILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL GROUP: Monday 4-5pm

 

The Botvin LifeSkills Training Middle School program is a groundbreaking substance abuse and violence prevention program based on more than 25 years of rigorous scientific research and is one of the most effective evidence-based programs used in schools today. In addition to helping kids resist drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, the LifeSkills Training Middle School program also effectively helps to reduce violence and other high-risk behaviors.

 

TRUTHOUGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL GROUP: Tuesday 4-5pm

 

Founded in 1995, Truthought proven program, tools, and techniques are effective for prevention and intervention with tremendous potential for reaching and influencing behavior changes from the least or "nominally irresponsible" persons to the most "at risk" populations in our schools, our businesses and our wider community. This group is appropriate for youth involved in fighting, stealing, bullying, etc.

 

LIFESKILLS HIGH SCHOOL GROUP: Wednesday 4-5pm

 

The Botvin LifeSkills Training High School program is a highly interactive, skills-based program designed to promote positive health and personal development for high school youth. Based on the highly effective LifeSkills Training curriculum, this program helps adolescents navigate the challenges of the high school years and prepares them for the independence and responsibilities that they will encounter as young adults. The LifeSkills Training High School program uses developmentally appropriate, collaborative learning strategies to help students achieve competency in the skills that have been found to reduce and prevent substance use and violence.

 

TRUTHOUGHT HIGH SCHOOL GROUP: Thursday 4-5pm

This group is appropriate for youth involved in fighting, stealing, bullying, etc.

TOBACCO EDUCATION GROUP: Friday- 4-5pm

 

Tobacco Education Group (TEG) is a readiness for tobacco cessation program specifically designed for youth in grades 6-12. TEG is highly interactive and effective for youth being cited for tobacco possession. It gives youth the tools and the knowledge about the dangers of tobacco as well as gives them tools to help them quit.

 

CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY GROUP: (Age 12-20) Thursday- 5-6pm

 

A basic introduction to the 12-step programs. This group is designed for youth with repeated issues involving mood altering substances.  

 

TICKET DIVERSION PROGRAM whereby a law enforcement officer through issuing a ticket to a juvenile can directly refer the juvenile to Goshen County Youth Alternatives for an intake and possible services.

 

VICTIM/OFFENDER MEDIATION administered jointly by Youth Alternatives and Victims Assistance. This program incorporates the principles of accountability for the offender and restitution for the victim.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE is primarily designed to benefit the youth of Goshen County by giving them a chance to work off fines levied against them by the court at selective work sites throughout the City and County.

 

HOUSE ARREST: must be court ordered which includes conditions stipulated by the Courts regarding specific conditions on curfew restrictions.

 

SUPERVISED PROBATION for youth adjudicated in Municipal and Circuit Courts.

 

48-HOUR HOLDOVER PROGRAM (Youth Jail Removal)- all placements MUST be approved by the County Attorney.

 

OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION PROGRAM

 

A partnership with Saint Joseph’s Children’s, Goshen County School District and Goshen County Youth Alternatives. The OSS program is designed for youth who have behavioral issues in school and as a consequence, w/ the parents consent, must attend OSS at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home. A trained educational professional works throughout the day with them on work that is provided by their own public school staff. A strict educational routine is enforced as well as a group conducted by Youth Alternatives staff for one hour each day addressing the specific issues as to which they are there for.

 

All programs provided through Youth Alternatives are provided at no cost
